Manchester Orchestra premiered a new song from their forthcoming album Simple Math a few days ago called “Virgin.” I was at the Rethink Music conference Boston and, as a result, am just now listening to it for the first time. In an interview the band did a while back, they mentioned that the new album would be a combination of sounds from Like A Virgin Losing A Child and Mean Everything to Nothing— this is leaning towards the heavier side that they started to explore on Mean Everything. After a week-long build-up, Manchester Orchestra released the title track and lead single from their forthcoming album Simple Math, due out May 10th via Favorite Gentlemen. Blending together the best elements of Like a Virgin Losing a Child and Mean Everything to Nothing, “Simple Math” showcases Andy Hull’s tremendous songwriting talent and Man Orch’s ability to craft a unique style. This is a band evolving — the next logical step for Manchester Orchestra. Mean Everything to Nothing propelled the band from obscurity, Simple Math may launch the band into the stratosphere of indie stardom.
