It shames me to say that I’ve slept on Boston do-it-yourselfer Kurt von Stetten. His name’s popped up multiple times over the past year, both for his phenomenal 2010 release Pyramid and his sensational 2011 effort Cyclops, which was released last week. Both local and national bloggers have sung his praises in the past, and each time I ignored them. What. An. Idiot.
In the last few days, I’ve tried to rectify my mistake. It’s tough going though, considering Stetten released six albums in six years. That’s a lot of music to go though, but I’m doing my best. During the past week, however, I kept coming back to Cyclops time and time again— it’s his most ambitious album to date, experimentation wise, but keeps each song accessible with a solid foundation of pop influences. BONUS: KVS premiered a video for his song “Code of Fisherman” (view here), and posted a new demo over on his site. Guy had a killer week.
