[Video] Oberhofer – “Away Frm U”

In the new video for “Away Frm U,” Oberhofer prove that the album name Time Capsule II is much much more than a name. The production values, the glitzy and acid-tripping background, the mic-licking frontman: all signs point to a wormhole leading us back to the 1990s.

Watch the video below via MTVU. Time Capsules II, already a strong contender for one of my favorite albums of the year, is out now on Glassnote Recordings.

[MP3] Friends – “Mind Control”

Towards the end of “Mind Control,” the first single from Friends’ forthcoming debut Manifest!, singer Samantha Urbani sings “I don’t want to rule or be ruled / I just want the right to be cool / However I chose to do what I do / Wherever I choose to be or with whom.” A sentiment that most everyone has felt at one point of time or another (e.g those rebellious teen years), those lines seemingly encapsulate Friends’ attitude towards life, music, and the contemporary scene: in short, a manifesto. There is, of course, the chance that Urbani and company are simply “poking a bit of good-natured fun at her band’s ‘indie’ image”— if the SoundCloud description can be believed, that is.

In either case, their quirky, off-kilter mix of ragtag synth, wailing guitars and intoxicating group chants is sure to get your feet moving. Perhaps not booty-shaking, but definitely swaying-to-the-beat music is happening here. Listen below, and make sure you pick up a copy of Manifest! when it’s released on July 5 here in the US via Fat Possum.

[Video] Hoodie Allen – “No Faith In Brooklyn”

It’s Hoodie Allen week here at LSW: his new ep All American has been playing non-stop from the time I’m off work til the time I’m falling asleep. Song choruses are stuck in my head, beats have me drumming on any surface I can at work.

We treated you to the video for “No Interruption” two weeks ago, and Hoodie premiered the clip for the Jhameel-featuring “No Faith In Brooklyn” on Tuesday. According to Hoodie, the video “follows [him] through a long distance relationship put to the test by a life constantly on the road.” It’s a feeling you hope you never have to experience.

Don’t go searching the internet for a freebie on this one, folks. Hoodie’s been giving us free music for years, so it’s about time we returned the favor by paying for his most original, creative and incredible work to date: go buy the All American EP on iTunes. Hell, his next project is another free mixtape. Show your support this time.

[MP3] Yuck – “Chew”

Feeling a little down because, like me, you won’t be in attendance at Coachella Fest this weekend? Well, I don’t claim to have a cure-all solution, but I can help ease the pain.

Yuck, the fuzzed-out 90′s-guitar-rock revivalists, play at both weekends of Coachella— with a slew of shows scheduled during the off week— and wanted to prepare the fans for their sets. To such ends, they’ve unleashed their first new song since releasing their self-titled 2011 album in the form of “Chew.”

You’ll hear traces of the Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, and contemporaries Pains of Being Pure at Heart littered throughout this four-minute noise-rock rager. And forgive Yuck for that abominable chorus line of “we chew it together,” please. You’ll be better off for it.

[Video] The Miracals – “Pretend”

The sunshine-drenched splendid-ness of The Miracals may be new to you, but they’ve actually been featured on LSW before— as The Smiles, for their song “Cala Cola.” The LA four-piece changed their name in mid 2011, but their sound, attitude and talent all stayed the same.

“Pretend” is from The Miracals’ debut “Give Me A Chance” which came out last November. The video is a quirky, framed photo affair with some unique visuals and a creative direction. Worth checking out on this (much needed) New England rainy day.

[Video] Macklemore – “Victory Lap”

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the Seattle emcee/producer team recently selected for the XXL 2012 Freshmen list, released a new video a few days ago for “Victory Lap,” a track featured on the official Freshman mixtape.

The guys have been doing their thing for 10 years now— which means they may not be freshmen to the scene, technically— and this video is a celebration of that. From Macklemore’s roots as a battle-rapper to selling out hometown shows and national tours, their success has been all about hard work, determination and heart.

[Video] The Horrible Crowes – “Ladykiller”

If you’re a fan of The Gaslight Anthem, you may believe that frontman Brian Fallon can do no wrong. He never writes a bad lyric or a dull riff. It was true when he fronted This Charming Man and he continues the streak through his side project— with guitar tech Ian Perkins— The Horrible Crowes.

Last year, the duo released their debut full-length, Elsie, and I thought that would be the last we’d hear of them for a while. Not so, as the band announced a new single in “Ladykiller” and recorded a video for the track as well. A compilation of cinematic one-off shots and live performance videos, you might get lost in the music and find yourself staring at the images blankly. And that’s fine by me when it comes to hearing Fallon and company.

[Video] Transit – “Asleep At The Wheel”

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Boston-based pop-punk starlets Transit here at Last Stop. It’s been amazing to watch them grow and mature, find their sound, gain fame, and release some fantastic albums. Last week, the group premiered the video for “Asleep At The Wheel,” take from their latest effort Listen & Forgive.

Watch the clip below, which features a rooftop performance, an innocent child and some of the worst aspects of humanity.

[MP3] Childish Gambino – “Eat Your Vegetables”

Childish Gambino fractured his foot not too long ago, forcing him to cancel his scheduled tour and, apparently, sending him back into the studio. There’s no information on this new track, “Eat Your Vegetables,” which was uploaded to his official site on Monday.

Same Gambino flow— he goes by the nickname D-Money for this track. just awful— but the beat is a bit more relaxed here than on my favorite CG songs. Doesn’t stop him from bringing the intensity, so pay attention. You’ll get your next Facebook status/Twitter twee from “Eat Your Vegetables.” Guaranteed.

Rumor has it a new mixtape will drop this summer. This may be on it, and some impressive guest spots. Keep your eyes peeled.
